Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshop: Children who worry excessively

King's Worcester offered all teaching and non-teaching staff working within Primary School settings the opportunity to attend a Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshop exploring ideas for supporting children who worry excessively.

The workshop offered practical and fun ways on how staff can support children to when relationships become tricky within their peer group and how to support children who struggle to make and sustain friendships.

The workshop hosted at the King's School Worcester campus and was attended 19 practitioners from across Worcestershire.

Aims

This particular workshop aimed to provide practical and fun ways for teaching and non-teaching primary school staff to support children who worry excessively and those that show signs of anxiety.

The beneficiaries of the workshop were not only those staff that attended but those children in their care.

Background

King's Worcester Educational Psychologist has been running a series of mental health workshops for pupils, parents and staff which have been hugely well received by all.

Being so well received by the King's community we wanted to extend the resource to other pupils, parents and staff across other educational settings within Worcestershire.

This is the third of a series of mental health workshops covering a vast range of topic areas and target ages which will continue into next academic year.

Resources

These workshops are offered by the school's Educational Psychologist and are fully funded by King's School Worcester.

School premises are used to host the workshops with all refreshments and resources covered by the school.

Impact

Qualitative feedback provided by those Practitioners who attended the workshop was extremely positive. Attendees found the workshop provided useful strategies and methods which they could put into practice in their individual settings.

Following on from this particular workshop attendees have requested similar style workshops to cover other areas of mental health and wellbeing.

Pupil Involvement

Targeted at staff there was no involvement from current King's School Worcester pupils.

Frequency

This workshop was a stand alone event however, the King's Foundation is now committed to hosting a series of similar workshops surrounding different areas of mental health and wellbeing for Early Years Practitioners, Primary school teachers / non-teaching staff as well as parents.
