Medway African Caribbean Association Awards 2023

King’s School Rochester were delighted to welcome our friends from the Medway African Caribbean Association to hold their Annual Awards ceremony.

The Mayor, Council Leader and other guests were able to enjoy performances of song and dance, including a piano composition written by current pupil John Fadare. The highlight of the evening was the performance of Jaki Graham! She ensured all the 120+ attendees were dancing around the Hall.

Pictured are Vince Maple (Leader of the Council), Sage Walsh OR and one of his Dance team, and The Worshipful The Mayor of Medway Councillor Nina Gurung. Both Vince and the Mayor were very complimentary of our efforts .

King’s were also delighted to support the event with a charity bar run by Hannah Catlett, which raised over £200 for its East African expedition next July, to support two Schools.

1. Magnet High school is located 16kms South-West of Nairobi.  The school is a charity run concern for pupils aged between 5 and 20.  The school provides free education for children from destitute and orphaned backgrounds, and is overseen by the non-government organisation VICODS.

2. MAPED is a Christian, community-based organisation tackling what it has identified as the five biggest barriers to development; HIV/AIDs, lack of clean drinking water, lack of women’s rights, lack of accessible and appropriate education, and the need for evangelism.  In recent years, they have been building a school near Hedaru in Orbili, a central village for the Maasai people.
