Maths Morning with Dormansland Primary
Year 3 had a joint Maths morning with Dormansland Primary. The children joined together for the morning to complete a range of activities including from measuring to multiplication. One group were armed with string, a tape measure, a trundle wheel and a metre rule so the children could work out the length of slides, zip wires, the drop from the monkey bars and the full size of World of Adventures. Another group practised their arithmetic skills, focusing on partitioning to add 3-digit numbers.
They worked in pairs to complete a treasure hunt, which put their accuracy and speed to the test! Pupils loved running around outside finding the right answers, providing them with the secret letter order. Children also enjoyed 'going shopping'. They were able to buy several items and we revisited the grid method of multiplication for adding several items of the same value together. Some children planned a party and had to choose which items of food to buy with a budget of £100!
Aims
Running cross-sector Maths lessons for Year 3 pupils enriches their learning and caters to diverse learning styles, enhances memory retention, and builds confidence and academic attainment.
Overall, by coming together, lessons provide a comprehensive, engaging, and practical educational experience they all will remember. The pupils at Lingfield College and Dormansland Primary benefitted equally from working together with different students and teachers.
