Masterclasses

Brentwood School offers masterclasses based on a variety of subject areas for the two most talented pupils from local partner primary schools (up to 80 pupils) in each relevant course.

English Masterclasses are run by the English deparment, Science Masterclasses by the Science deparment, Chess Masterclasses by the Chess deparment and Mathematics Masterclasses by the Mathematics deparment on Saturdays every two weeks.

Aims

The aim of the Masterclasses is to bridge the gap between KS2 and 3, and to help to widen knowledge and experience of maintained sector pupils.

Background

Head of Mathematics suggested offering Masterclasses on Saturdays as a public benefit service to maintained sector schools, this was later sucessfully branched out to English, Science & Chess.

Resources

Staff are provided to run the class as well as: communication resources, catering staff, the classrooms on Saturdays, parking and pencils/rulers.

Pupil Involvement

No pupils from Brentwood, the course involves up to 80 pupils from maintained sector schools (Aged 10) for each Masterclass.

Frequency

The Masterclasses run every fortnight between Febuary and October.
