London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham Partnership

The Headmaster of Alleyn’s, Dr Savage, is a Governor of LAET, and three academic departments at Alleyn’s are the primary links with their opposite numbers at the Academy. Dr Savage, several Heads of Department and other senior staff from Alleyn’s have made a number of visits to LAET to undertake reviews and reports to assist the school in its formative stages.

Aims

Upon the launch of the Academy, Dr Savage said: “I am delighted that Alleyn’s is a supporter of the exciting London Academy of Excellence Tottenham. The venture will provide many fantastic opportunities for all parties involved to contribute, participate and collaborate, building on values of partnership and community. In this sense, LAE Tottenham very much accords with Alleyn’s own closely-held vision and values, and we all look forward to making a real difference to the success of the Academy and its students.”

Background

LAET is supported by Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Highgate School, the Department for Education and a number of other independent schools, including Alleyn’s. It opened its doors to students for the first time in September 2017.

Resources

Alleyn’s has seconded a Biology teacher to LAET for one day per week to assist with their provision. Most recently, teachers from Alleyn's have embarked upon series of lectures to LAET pupils and staff covering topics such as:

"Why visit the National Gallery?
Classical music is for us
The London housing crisis
An introduction to Philosophy 
Medical Ethics
Why bother with the theatre?"

Impact

LAET represents an important example of Alleyn’s commitment to improving educational provision for as many children as possible, locally, in London and beyond.

Pupil Involvement

Pupils and teachers from LAET and Alleyn’s have visited one another on a number of occasions to enjoy activities such as shared lessons and lectures. Additional opportunities have included invitations to lectures by external speakers at Alleyn's, educational visits (including a joint Southwark Schools' Learning Partnership trip to CERN, Geneva in August).
