Law Insight Day

A careers event was held at St Albans High School for girls on 11 November 2023 providing an opportunity for students to learn about the study and careers pathways for law, with the chance to meet and network with students and professionals training and working within the legal industry. Highlights of the event included a keynote talk from Lisa Ball, Head of Compliance, Content and Safety at TikTok, the chance to participate in interactive legal case studies in small groups and a professional networking session with volunteers from a range of areas and roles within Law.

Background

St Albans High School for Girls runs a Law Stretch programme for Sixth Formers interested in pursuing Law at university or as a career.  Demand for this programme has always been high, so an event which brought together students interested in this career with professionals experienced in the legal industry seemed a natural way of helping to inform students considering this path.

Resources

The event used the facilities of St Albans High School for Girls. We invited in 30 adult guest speakers who were either parents of current students or alumni of the School. They talked about a variety of different aspects of the legal industry from job applications to different subject areas within the law.

Impact

A feedback form was sent to all participants after the event.

Pupil Involvement

Year 9 to 13 were invited. 231 booked a place in advance, we expected about 200 (due to cancellations and duplicates) and 145 actually attended on the day.  Of this number around 75 were from local schools.

Frequency

This was a one off event although may be repeated again in around 3 years.
