King's, Oaklands School in Walderslade and English Martyrs School, Frindsbury come together for Singing Workshop

Year 5 pupils from King's were joined by Year 6 pupils from two primary schools: Oaklands in Walderslade and English Martyrs Roman Catholic School in Frindsbury, having been involved with a programme called "Sing with King's". Run by the Director of music at King's the aim is to develop the pupils’s vocal and rhythmic skills, increase their enjoyment of music and also to raise their awareness of playing instruments.

We began with body percussion, rhythm games and vocal warm-ups, before teaching a wide range of songs. Between us, we are also able to demonstrate the clarinet, saxophone, violin, piano and trumpet, which added another dimension to our visits.

English Martyrs pupils had been learning a set of songs under the leadership of Director of Music King's School and two pupils for several weeks before.

Pupils from all the schools then joined together for a day of singing, culminating in a performance of "Jonah-Man Jazz" by Michael Hurd, ably accompanied by senior pupils from King's, and enjoyed by parents and friends from both schools.
