King's Hedges Inclusion Equality & Diversity
Fifteen upper sixth students have been leading activities such as sports, STEM, reading and role-modelling with 15 pupils at King's Hedges. Each activity is rooted in IE&D perspective and learning.
Aims
At the start of the 2022-23 year, a new Inclusion, Equality & Diversity partnership enrichment programme started at King's Hedges Primary School.
King's Hedges is situated in an area with a high poverty index compared to the national average and much of Cambridge.
Fifteen U6 students have been leading activities such as sports, STEM, reading and role-modelling with 15 pupils at King's Hedges. Each activity is rooted in IE&D perspective and learning.The purpose of the enrichment is to begin a process of open conversations and community engagement regarding social mobility, access and barriers to education with local schools.
Background
The two schools have partnered on Arts and Maths mentoring projects and an I, E & D project seemed a natural development of the partnership.
The Assistant Head (Inclusion, Equality & Diversity) met with the Head and senior staff at King's Hedges to explore possibilities and the project began in November 2022.
Resources
The Assistant Head travels to King's Hedges with 15 upper sixth students on a Friday afternoon fortnightly between November and the start of study leave in May.
Impact
Assessment will be carried out after a full cycle of this project but initial feedback from King's Hedges staff and pupils has been positive.
