Kent College students run Entrepreneurship Workshop for Staplecross Primary School
12 Lower Sixth students from Kent College Pembury studying Business A Level created and delivered an Enterprise workshop for 30 Year 6 pupils at Staplecross Primary School. This will be an annual workshop.
Year 6 pupils were given a presentation about the importance of a healthy diet, how new business ideas are developed, and how businesses calculate pricing, branding, and promotion strategies. They were tasked with creating a healthy smoothie using fresh ingredients and presented their final bottled smoothies to a panel of judges, explaining their branding, target market and pricing.
Aims
The aims of the partnership were to establish a relationship between the two schools, which could become an annual event to benefit both schools.
Background
The opportunity was identified by Kent College's Head of Partnerships and Business Studies teacher, Mrs Maame Osew.
Resources
The workshop took place at Staplecross School and teaching staff from both schools were in attendance. There was no financial contribution from either school.
Impact
The outcomes were that the Year 6 pupils gained valuable numeracy, communication, and entrepreneurship skills, and Kent College Pembury students developed leadership and teamwork skills through sharing their business knowledge in an environment where creativity flourished.
All feedback from both schools was extremely positive and one student said:
“Planning and leading the workshop was an incredibly rewarding experience. Not only did it help me develop my organisational and leadership skills, but it also allowed me to see the direct impact of all our efforts on the younger students’ learning.”
