Kent College hosts 'Prep for Paris' sporting event
Kent College PE staff and Sport Scholars ran a sports' activity afternoon for over 200 local primary school pupils as well as Kent College prep pupils. They organised a series of activities which the pupils took part in, these were gymnastics, hockey, dance, orienteering, cricket, rugby, athletics, tennis and fitness.
The pupils also met and heard from para-athlete Claire Danson who told her incredible story of surviving devastating injuries and her determination and commitment as she trains for the Paralympics in 2028 as a member of the British Cycling team.
Aims
The aims were to give local primary school children an opportunity to try new sports that they may not have experienced before.
Background
This activity was identified by Director of Sport, Georgie Hughes. Originally it was to tie in with the Olympic Games taking place in the summer of 2024, but it is hoped that it will be an annual event.
Resources
The afternoon took place at Kent College and used the following facilities: gym, sports halls, Astro and playing fields. There was no financial contribution from schools. Teaching staff from all schools attended.
Impact
The pupils were able to experience sports that they had no played before and use some of the sport facilities at Kent College including the astro, fitness suite, gymnastics equipment, sports halls and grounds. The Kent College sport scholars gained valuable experience in planning and leading activities with large groups of children.
All feedback was extremely positive.
Pupil Involvement
The students from other schools were a mixture of girls and boys and were Years 5 and 6. The Kent College pupils were all girls ranging from Years 7 - Lower Sixth.

We hope this will be an annual event.
