Kennel Lane School Service Partnership

An ongoing partnership to improve social interaction and communication skills for young people at a local 5-19 Special School by interacting through various activities.  It has been significantly developmental for Wellington students as well.

Aims

To help to improve the social and communication skill development of the Kennel Lane students.

Background

The younger son of two Wellington teachers was a student at Kennel Lane from year 1 to year 14, and his very positive experience there sparked the idea of an ongoing partnership. This idea then developed through discussions with the head and senior leaders at KLS. The partnership is between KLS and one boys' day house at Wellington, and has now been running for 4 years.

Resources

Teaching staff time and energy. Costs of activites, trips and travel for staff and students from both schools is covered by Wellington. Facilities at both schools used.

Impact

The impact here is not easily measurable by simple metrics. Feedback from KLS students and teachers has been excellent.

Pupil Involvement

Wellington - Yrs 11-12.

Kennel Lane - Yrs 6-14.

Frequency

Regular weekly for 90 minutes, and other events and trips are ad hoc.
