Junior Science Mornings

Students from local schools attended the Malvern St James Junior Schools’ Science Morning, where every pupil experienced four STEM subject sessions.

Seven different departments delivered four sessions - Maths, Geography, Design and Technology, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Computer Science. Year 12 guided the students around the school.

Aims

To connect with pupils in local primary schools and give them a taste of science lessons in senior school. To generate enthusiasm and interest in science overall and celebrate British Science Week.

To provide an opportunity for junior schools to share Malvern St James Junior Schools’ STEM facilities and expertise.

Resources

Admin and organisation of the event is provided by Malvern St James Junior Schools’ Head of Science. The sessions were each run by Academic staff from seven departments, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics and ICT. Each session was supported by resources from the different departments and practical demonstrations in the science labs were supported by each department’s lab technicians. Tea for all was provided by the Catering Department.

Impact

The event has been running for eight years and the feedback we receive from local schools tells us that both children and staff look forward to it each year. The schools that attend do so year after year.

Pupil Involvement

The event is open to junior school children of all ages from 9 to 11.

Frequency

This event occurs bi-annually.
