Joint Abingdon Schools' Carnegie Shadowing Scheme
Involving students from local Abingdon schools, three events take place throughout the year aimed at discussing books on the Carnegie Medal shortlist.
Aims
The scheme aims to raise the profile of reading across all the schools involved, champion young readers among their peers and promote empathy and partnership across the wider local community.
Impact
The students' reading, writing and critical thinking skills are stretched and challenged. They also develop crucial skills such as collaboration, debating and presentation skills, as well as awareness of political, social and cultural issues. All these are enhanced through the various activities and events.
Pupil Involvement
Students from Year 7 at both independent and maintained schools participate.
Frequency
Events take place throughout the year.
