Joint A level Chemistry workshops with schools

Teacher from Francis Holland leads A level Chemistry seminars at City and Islington College

A Joint A Level Chemistry Seminar with City & Islington 6th Form College took place twice within the academic year. The session discussed an academic article on the Chemistry of paper. Another session is planned for the Summer Term. They have also invited us to two talks: one on sustainable fuels and the other on a career in medicine given by a GP. Pupils involved are from City and Islington College who are studying A level Chemistry, boys, and girls, 16 to 18.

The aim of this workshop is to support excellence in the teaching of A level Chemistry. This project is led by the teacher at Francis Holland School who has responsibility for outreach. He is a chemist and he reached out to City and Islington.

There is a qualitative impact to this initiative, and it is a genuine partnership, since we have been invited to attend events run by City and Islington College.

Joint A level Chemistry and Physics workshops with Camden School for Girls

One teacher from Francis Holland School has arranged joint A level workshops for students of Chemistry across these two schools. There was also work on Physics and the project will extend to Biology next year. This is an academic project with the aim of improving A level success rates at both schools. Some twenty Sixth Formers across the two schools were involved. Mainly girls, but some boys from Camden.

The partnership was established by the teacher at Francis Holland School who reached out to his counterpart at Camden. The impact can be assessed using the A level results.

Joint A level Chemistry workshops with Camden School for Girls

The two schools are working together with A level scientists. We are taking it in turn to host after-school teaching here at Francis Holland and alternately there at Camden School for Girls. This is a stretch and challenge project for the benefit of Sixth Formers in both schools.

The Head of Chemistry at Francis Holland School, Regent's Park is the link teacher in this partnership. He proposed the collaboration to his counterpart at Camden School for Girls and the joint working began from there. Approximately 12 students are involved. All of them are in the Sixth Form. This project is running throughout the academic year with the intention to continue into the following academic year.
