Hosting Revelation Strings - A concert to Remember
Last year we gave a joint concert in Taylor Hall with Revelation Strings who are made up of grade 6+ students, teachers, keen amateurs and some of the United Kingdom's leading professional musician. The concert was directed by guest David Burridge and our own Director of Music with a wide range of music played from Vivaldi to Queen.
Aims
The aim was to raise aspiration and widen the horizons of students involved, providing them with the opportunity to experience a string orchestra live.
Background
The partnership came about thanks to our Director of Music who invited the orchestra to come to our school and thought immediately of the wider community.
Resources
The Taylor Hall, our multi-use theatre, provides the perfect venue for performances. The theatre seats an audience of up to 500 people within the main hall and balcony. Specialist stage lighting and sound equipment helps to create a professional production. The stage dominates one wall, but the building is constructed so that performances can also take place in the round.
Impact
Outcomes have included an increased love of string music for all audience members.
Pupil Involvement
The audience was made up of pupils aged between 5 and 18 years old.
Frequency
This was planned initially as a one-off event but we now aim to invite Revelation Strings back and to increase the numbers of schools involved in future years.
