Horizon Sports Club
Senior Wycombe Abbey pupils support Horizon Sports Club by swimming with disabled children.
Aims
Our work with Horizon Sports Club emerged from three reflections: first, a recognition that the work of Horizon Sports Club - helping disabled children to access sports - was both very important and very local; second, that our pupils typically come from privileged social backgrounds that do not routinely give them meaningful exposure to service; and third, that school-provided opportunities for service, have historically been limited, so the learning and personal development that comes from service was limited to relatively few pupils. Supporting Horizon Sports Club through offering our swimming pool and our pupils was a natural conclusion.
Background
Our work with Horizon Sports Club is longstanding (5+ years). They are very geographically proximate to Wycombe Abbey and so there was a clear reason to work with them.
