Hockey Training Session

The PE department leads an intensive Hockey training session with a group of Gifted and Talented students from a local primary school. This session was designed to tie in with Highfield's preparation for an upcoming tournament.

Aims

The aim of the workshop is to provide primary school students with the opportunity to train with a hockey specialist and hone their techniques before a tournament. This workshop also provided students with the opportunity to play somewhere new and experience different facilities.

Background

Having met with a member of staff at Highfield Primary School, we identified areas where they would like to partner with King Edward VI School and where they would more like support. Highfield had achieved great success in a local Hockey competition and wanted the opportunity to gain enhance and practise key skills and use a new set of facilities.

Resources

The key resource for this project is the extremely knowledgeable Hockey coach. King Edward's provided the facilities including a minibus to collect the students and return after their session.

Impact

King Edward's received really positive feedback from the School; they really enjoyed the session and felt confident entering the next stage of the competition.

Pupil Involvement

8 students from KS2.

Frequency

This was a single-event but we intend to open this opportunity to other partner schools.
