Hever Castle day trip

We invited 12 Year 6 pupils from Westbridge Primary to join our Year 8 pupils on their trip to Hever Castle in Kent. There was a guided tour of the Castle and an exploration of the wonderful, grounds and exhibits. It was a superb day.  Sample feedback from the Westbridge children include ‘We were glad to make new friends and have the opportunity to learn so much’ and ‘It was one of the best experiences ever’.

Aims

To provide Westbridge Primary pupils with an opportunity to visit a historic site that they might not have otherwise had.

Background

Westbridge Primary is one of our partner schools. Through our relationship we know that they are keen to take advantage of enrichment opportunities for their pupils.

Resources

We provided transport from Westbridge to Hever Castle. We picked up the children in a minibus with one of their teachers. The Emanuel minibus was staffed by two Emanuel teachers.

We had 6 groups of Year 8 Emanuel children. Two Westbridge children were assigned to each group. They were assigned 'buddies' to ensure that they felt welcomed.

We covered the cost of the minibus and Hever castle entry fees.

Impact

The Westbridge children loved the trip. Multiple stated that is was the best day ever.

Pupil Involvement

It was an Emanuel School Year 8 History trip. The pupils from Westbridge were in Year 6.

Frequency

We expect to repeat this initiative annually.
