Harvest Festival food bank donations
Pupils, parents and staff are invited to make food donations for the local community. This activity works in partnership with Woodley Food Bank and is linked to coincide with our Harvest Thanksgiving assembly.
Aims
The aim of the activity was to boost the stock of food at Woodley Food Bank as winter starts. This need was identified by a parent of a current student at RBCS. The immediate beneficiaries are the members of the local community who have a need to access the food bank.
Background
This need was identified by a parent of a current student at RBCS. The Director of the Aldworth Partnership contacted Woodley Food Bank and their staff kindly contributed to the Harvest Thanksgiving assembly by explaining the charity work they do.
Resources
The boxes used to hold the collected food were kindly donated by a local company - Swiftpak. The delivery of the food was carried out using the school minibus.
Impact
Fifty five large boxes of food were donated through this activity. The food was distributed to the local community through Woodley Food Bank https://woodleyfoodbank.org/
Pupil Involvement
The activity was led by the Aldworth Partnership prefects (Year 13) who launched the collection in a whole school assembly. All year groups participated in the collection with Year 9 helping to get the food boxes to the food bank distribution centre.
Frequency
This is planned to be an annual event. Pupils will also have the opportunity to work at the food bank - organising stock and putting together food parcels.
