GrowRoehampton Street Band Project

IPS worked with Wandsworth Music and partners from the Hackney Colliery Band with support from the London Mayor’s Fund to deliver a street band performance project alongside local primary schools.

Aims

Pupils from Granard, Mosaic and Heathmere schools worked with tutors from Wandsworth Music, HCB and IPS with IPS also providing music instruments, equipment and other funding in kind. There were several rehearsals throughout the Spring and Summer terms of 2022, before a procession on the Ashburton Estate on 20 June – the opening day of the IPS Festival – in conjunction with the Wandsworth Arts Fringe. On 12 July, IPS hosted the culminatory concert of the project, hosting local schools and parents for a full performance of the Street Band group – with pupils processing through the Theatre and around the stage – as well as a music production group, representatives from the various schools involved in the scheme, and the Wandsworth Jazz Orchestra.

We are looking to deepen this partnership over this year and beyond.
