Girls On Track Day at Monkton
A day of activities for girls from 10 different local schools to inspire girls into seeing and believing that there is a rightful and valuable place for them in the motorsports industry and to encourage an interest in STEM subjects and industries amongst school girls, with the aim of increasing female participation in these sectors, using motorsport as a medium to expose them to the incredible opportunities and career paths within the sport.
Aims
Through active, engaging activity days for schools, Girls on Track aim to excite and encourage girls into believing that there is a rightful place for females within the motorsports industry and to inspire, connect and showcase females in motorsport as well as in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
Background
This event had been run previously at Monkton, in 2021. The Girls on Track team had managed to secure funding to allow them to run it again providing we included schools with children who wouldn't get an opportunity to explore this industry normally.
Resources
Locations across Monkton Senior School as well as members of staff including the catering team who provided morning and afternoon snack.
Impact
102 girls from 10 different schools took park in 5 activities to showcase and encourage interest and confidence in STEM subjects. From a speedy pit stop challenge to learning the vital skills of CPR and presenting and communicating the the media the girls now have knowledge of the vast array of skills and disciplines needed to work in motorsport. We have had amazing feedback from parents, schools and the pupils themselves and hope that this will stay with them and inspire their future choices.
Pupil Involvement
KS2 pupils attended and were guided by Monkton Yr 10 pupils.
