Girls on Track
This was a multi-school one-day event aimed at inspiring girls about STEM though a programme of entertaining and educational events.
Aims
The aim is to inspire school age girls to find out more about STEM subjects and to see how they might find a future in these kinds of careers.
Local schools in the area were invited to bring a team of 10 year 6 girls.
Background
Monkton teamed up with Girls on Track UK who deliver events to inspire girls and women into seeing and believing that there is a rightful and valuable place for them in the motorsports industry.
Monkton hosted a team of Ambassadors who are inspirational women within motorsport. From team principles to mechanics, presenters to engineers, their Ambassadors cover the breadth of the sport. They provided an important insight into motor sport and their support and knowledge was invaluable.
Resources
The partnership uses the Monkton site for the day. We developed an outdoor track for remote control cars, used classrooms and school facilities for workshops and sessions, and Girls on Track UK parked a Formula 1 car in the main school quad. A team of staff were involved in setting up the logistics and organisation of this event, and it was then delivered by Girls on Track UK.
Monkton pupils volunteered to lead and support sessions throughout the day.
Impact
A total of 60 girls benefited from this day, and pupils were involved from Monkton in supporting sessions and leading groups.
Pupil Involvement
Year 6 pupils from a combination of schools. Year 12 pupils volunteered from Monkton.
Frequency
This is a single but repeatable event and we would like to run it at least once every two years.
