Gifted & Talented Maths Masterclass

Two members of the Maths department, led by Head of Year 7 ran a Saturday morning Maths Masterclass for Year 5 students at local state schools.

Ten schools were invited to nominate two mathematically able girls each to attend a bespoke maths session.

This was the first time the programme had run, but is now set to become an annual event.

Aims

The aim was to buck stereotypes and promote Maths for Year 5 girls.

The session provided the opportunity for them to explore Mathematical concepts beyond confines of school syllabus and work with similarly able students.

Girls who attended benefited first hand, with the knock-on effect that they were encouraged to go back to their schools and share what they had learnt.

The aim was to share and promote a 'can do' attitude towards girls doing Maths.
