French Language Teaching

Since January 2023, the Prep school MFL lead has been visitingĀ Balcombe C.E. Primary School once a week to teach French to Year 4 and Year 5/6 pupils.

Aims

To develop classroom engagement in foreign language learning, including an understanding of festivals, traditions and values in French speaking countries.

To devise new schemes of work designed to prepare pupils for the transition to Year 7 in secondary schools.

Background

The new Partnership Co-ordinator approached the school to begin a discussion about possible future partnerships. The head of the primary school emailed after the meeting to ask if the College could possibly support them with a language teacher.

The Prep school MFL lead agreed to meet with the head to explore various options and from this the present format evolved.

Resources

A subscription to Linguascope was purchased on behalf of the school and is being woven into a a new scheme of work.

MFL lead visits the school for approximately one and a half hours weekly.

Impact

This will be inputted at the end of the term.

Pupil Involvement

Both classes have approximately 30 children, both male and female.

Frequency

This partnership will continue for the next academic year in order to ensure there is a scheme of work in place for a two year cycle.
