Festival of Rugby for Medway schools

We were pleased to be able to host boys and girls (aged from 8 to 10) from a number of local schools for a Festival of Rugby. The objective of the event was to enable pupils from local state schools to experience the basics of Tag Rugby and to play some matches, helping them to build greater confidence and giving them access to specialist coaching.

Children from Riverview, St Margaret’s of Troy Town, Balfour and Brompton Westbrook schools, spent a full day at King’s with the morning focused on learning and practicing the skills of Rugby, with the School’s qualified Rugby coaches. After lunch, the children spent the afternoon, taking part in mixed games of Rugby, under the guidance of the King’s coaches and sports scholars.

The visiting schools were able to utilise King’s rugby pitches and equipment, at the sports ground in the middle of Rochester. They were intrigued with the collection of sporting pictures in the pavilion, which dates back to 1875.

After the event, we received the following feedback -

From Brompton Westbrook Primary - I would like to thank all your staff involved in organising and leading the Rugby Festival last Friday. In particular, I would like to thank Mr. Hebden and his team for giving up their time to share their skills to develop the rugby of the children involved. All the staff were fantastic and the children loved every minute of it. The coaching was of the highest quality and the opportunity to play games in the afternoon was enjoyed by all children-they have been talking about it all week.

All the staff were very welcoming and the lunch was incredible! I hope that you do future events because the opportunities for schools to benefit from expert coaching is priceless.

I would like to say on a personal note that I think the site for your school is beautiful. Thank you once again.
