Feltham College

Feltham College opened in September 2022. The college is an exciting new model of post-16 education, which brings together a powerful partnership of education, business and health service providers to broaden choices for local young people and offer them transformative opportunities.

Alongside Reach Academy, Hampton and Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH), other partners include Kingston University and East London Arts & Music Academy, as well as East London Arts & Music Academy, and award-winning London restaurateur Jacob Kenedy.

Aims

Feltham College aims to be a centre of academic and vocational excellence at the heart of the town, playing a key role in rejuvenating a historically deprived area that has experienced significant pandemic-related job losses.

Courses at the new college will range from traditional A Levels which will be supported by Hampton and LEH, to professional qualifications in music, catering, health and social care. The innovative approach taken could provide a helpful blueprint for other areas of the UK seeking to boost their post-16 provision.

Situated in Feltham town centre, the new sixth form college campus will be affiliated to Reach Academy, Feltham – already renowned as a ground-breaking local education provider. In addition to classrooms and laboratories, facilities will include a restaurant and café, music rehearsal rooms and production studios, allowing pupils on vocational courses to gain real-life work experience.

Background

The young people of Feltham have much to offer, and while public examination results at Reach Academy are excellent, for a variety of reasons currently only 20% of 18-year-olds in the Feltham area move onto higher education. This compares to a national average of 80%, and over one-third of 16 to 24-year-olds in Hounslow have no qualifications at all, four times the London average.

Feltham College is a post-16 model designed to address this and offer local young people lives of choice and opportunity. In what we believe is a first, the college is based on a partnership of state and independent educators alongside leaders from the business and health sectors.

The college welcomed its first cohort of Sixth Formers in September 2022.

Resources

Feltham College’s academic courses will be supported by Hampton and LEH – building on the relationship of trust that has developed at all levels and ensuring that across the board, academic courses are highly effective and set pupils up for success.

Frequency

This is an ongoing project. Teaching staff from Hampton and LEH will continue to provide support to both Feltham College pupils and teaching staff.
