Farnham Assist Community Lunches
To build a lasting relationship between our school and the local elderly community, students and staff from Frensham Heights have been supporting Farnham Assist which provides community lunches for the isolated elderly.
Aims
The aim of this project is to build a lasting partnership between our school and the local elderly community. We identified that the charity Farnham Assist needed help providing community lunches for the isolated elderly.
The critical factors for success are the Frensham Heights students and staff who volunteer and support Farnham Assist.
The immediate beneficiaries are the elderly who attend the lunches and our student and staff volunteers.
Background
Pre-pandemic, we created links with Farnham Assist (a charity that helps elderly members of the community who live on their own) and this relationship led to this initiative.
Our Head of Outreach and Community Engagement, Lynn Goodburne, established this opportunity. It has been running for 2 years.
Resources
The critical resources are a member of Frensham Heights staff and a group of student volunteers.
The school site is not used, just a school minibus. Teaching staff are involved - one teacher for three hours, three times every academic term.
There is no direct financial contribution.
Impact
There is no formal assessment of the benefits of this project.
Pupil Involvement
Frensham Heights students are involved with serving the community lunches. Their ages range from 11 to 18 years old and all genders are included.
Frequency
The project is ongoing and we support the lunches three times an academic term. It will continue on a long-term basis
