EPQ Training

We gave an EPQ Research Skills tutorial to Lower Sixth Form students and staff at the Marches school.

Aims

Our aim was to support students and staff at the Marches as they begin to research for the Extended Project Qualification or EPQ qualification.

The tutorial covered:

- understanding resources

- developing a successful search strategy

- evaluating resources and

- identifying useful free resources online.

Background

The Head of Partnership & Community Engagement is in regular contact with the Marches Academy Trust and forwarded the idea to our Head Librarian.

Ideas about useful, free subscription databases for EPQ were discussed in the Summer term of 2020.

Resources

The tutorial was delivered via zoom, although a live presentation would be preferable and hopefully possible next time.

Resources identified are all freely available via Shropshire Libraries, e.g.:

- GoogleBooks

- GoogleScholar.

Pupil Involvement

The tutorial was delivered to 50-60 pupils in year 12.

Frequency

It was a short, informative session, lasting approximately half an hour.

We hope to repeat this event next year - in person, if the situation allows us to.
