Edgbaston High School Ethics Forum

On Friday 11th September, EHS played host to a panel-based discussion and debate session: the Ethics Forum. EHS pupils were joined by students from neighbouring schools for the much anticipated opportunity to ask pressing, even controversial, questions in a BBC Question Time style forum.

Aims

We were delighted to welcome a panel of well-known experts from a range of professional fields:  Preet Gill MP, Councillor Alex Yip, (Conservative, Sutton Wylde Green) and others.

The panel were asked probing questions (devised by the students themselves) about the issues of the day, including the environment, medical ethics, inflammatory rhetoric used in politics, and of course, Brexit.

It was a morning of impassioned debate including from the Labour representative Preet Gill MP and Reverend Heathfield. There were some excellent contributions from students from our visiting schools, Handsworth Grammar and St Paul’s.

A huge thank you must go to our visiting experts and visiting students for attending the Ethics Forum. This was a valuable experience for all involved; certainly the thought-provoking matters were the subject of debate that carried on amongst students long into lunchtime and beyond.

Background

This was the fourth EHS Ethics Forum.  The first where we have invited local schools to attend.

Resources
