Dulwich Hamlet Junior School Performances

Dulwich Hamlet Junior School returned to the theatre for three days to rehearse and perform their end of term show. The school has used the theatre at Alleyn's in previous years and this is an ongoing partnership.

Background

The local School do not have a dedicated performance space at their School. The scale and ambition of the school's end of term show has grown each year. Using The MCT at Alleyn's the school are able to devise a show to fully showcase the talents of their Year 6 pupils. The school made use of the theatre's orchestra pit and included a live band in the production. This year technical aspects included projection, haze and pyrotechnic confetti bombs.

Pupils and teachers from Dulwich Hamlet Junior School were invited to watch a matinee of the production and two evening performances were open to friends and family.

Resources

The School spent one full day rehearsing in the theatre, followed by two performance days.

The theatre and technical equipment were hired to the School free of charge. Some staff costs were charged back to the School, for specialised staff required when working in a professional theatre space.

During the evening performance a bar was run by Alleyn’s School and the proceeds made were donated back to the school which allowed them to put this money towards the costs incurred from the necessary staffing of sound and lighting operations and theatre ushers for the production.

Impact

The size of their School hall would not be able to accomodate a production of this size. They we not limited to what they wanted to achieve using the space. The School used pyro effects with confetti bombs, had a live orchestra in the orchestra pit and haze and moving lights which all helped create a spectacular show.

The children enjoyed performing in front of thier family and friends.

Frequency

Dulwich Hamlets will return to Alleyn's theatre next July.
