Drama outreach with Westbury Park Junior School
Redmaids' High Senior School invited girls and boys from local junior schools to come and watch a free matinee performance of 'Looking for Mermaids', an original piece written by the school's Head of English based on the tales of Hans Christian Andersen, also with original music and choreography, much of which was devised by the students themselves.
The show was attended by Years 5 and 6 from Westbury Park Junior School, together with Redmaids' High's own Junior School.
Aims
The aim behind inviting other schools was to inspire other young people in the joy of performing and musical theatre, while providing the cast and crew with a full dress rehearsal before the first night.
Resources
The play featured more than 50 student actors and musicians from Years 7 to 13, backed up by an extensive production crew of students and staff.
Our Senior and Junior productions were performed in Redland Hall, which was purpose-built and opened in September 2017.
