Donna's Dream House
For the past 10 years, Rossall has proudly been working alongside Donna's Dream House and in the process, raising over £20,000. Rossall prepares and delivers a cabaret evening in order to raise money for the charity and is currently working with DDH to provide a sensory garden element to the new public/environment garden at school.
Aims
The Donna's Dream House charity in Blackpool is a locally based trust, providing free holiday experiences for children and teenagers with life threatening illnesses. The trust also look after the children's families. Whilst the voluntary team at the Dream House provide the expertise, enthusiasm and administration, it is the generosity of many companies, organisations and individuals, in raising and donating money, that makes it possible to not only bring sunshine and fun into children's lives, but a sense of wonder, adventure, laughter and a much needed holiday in Blackpool for the whole family. Rossall has been working alongside the Dream House for 10 years.
Background
1o years ago, one of the music teachers wanted to form a partnership with an organisation on an issue that was close to him personally. After 10 years, our partnership is stronger than ever and we are excited by the new projects we are developing together.
Resources
The charity evening is written, performed and produced by the students at the school in the main hall. The work on the sensory garden is also being undertaken by members of the school community, both staff and pupils.
Pupil Involvement
The cabaret ball, whilst supported by the whole school, is mainly run through one of the boy's boarding houses, Mitre and Fleur de Lys. The cabaret evening involves students from the ages of 14-18 and the work on the garden is a Sixth Form project.
Frequency
The cabaret ball is a single, yearly event. The garden is an ongoing project alongside the volunteering aspect from the students.
