Disability Football and Hockey

We host weekly disability football and hockey sessions for children and young people at our site. We run two football sessions with Fulham Football Club Foundation and two hockey sessions with Wayfarer's Flyerz.

Aims

The aims of the project are to provide opportunities for children and young people with disabilities to engage in sport and team activities.

Background

We work with Fulham Football Club Foundation to run football tournaments for local primary schools. Through this relationship we have identified a number of opportunities where we can work together to support our common aims. Providing access to our mini astro is simple and high impact for the children and FFCF. We are centrally located, easy to access, have parking on site and availability.

The Flyerz relationship has evolved through staff and parent involvement with the charity. Through these connections, we have been able to identify opportunities where we can work together. Providing the mini astro is one of these opportunities.

Resources

In both instances, we use the mini astro on site. The gate house is staffed so that children, parents and coaches can come on to the site.

Impact

Both activities are assessed via participation and ad hoc feedback. We are working with both organisations to formalise the assessment process.

Pupil Involvement

Pupils are involved with the disability hockey programme. Pupils are in Year 9 and 10. The initiative provides a great opportunity for pupils to work with children with disabilities and fulfil the volunteering requirement for DofE.

Frequency

Football sessions are run several times per week - one session is 1.5 hours; the other one hour. There are two one hour hockey sessions per week.

All sessions run according to the state school calendar and are term time only. The projects will continue for the foreseeable future.
