Cricket coaching afternoon
Every summer term, local primary schools are invited to join our Year 5 or 6 pupils for an afternoon of cricket coaching and games.
Aims
To provide an afternoon of fun, energetic and skills based cricket sessions.
The sessions aim to provide more opportunities for our pupils to engage with those from other, local schools as well as providing opportunities for the staff to work together and learn from each other.
Background
The links with our local schools are always developing and these sporting events can only enhance them.
We have been running afternoons such as these for over ten years now. Each year though, we look to involve new schools.
Resources
Our staff are fully committed to helping provide these sessions and in addition to giving their expertise and energy, they often help with transportation.
Let us also not forget the estate and kitchen team that help prepare the facilities and provide fantastic refreshments for visiting staff, pupils and parents.
Whenever these events are held there are knock-ons for all staff in the school, be it cover for lessons or picking up extra duties to replace the staff involved.
Impact
The enjoyment is clear to see on the faces of the visiting pupils. In addition, our own pupils enjoy meeting and playing with new children.
These events also provide excellent opportunities for parents to network and with so much local club sport going on outside school hours, these events often get parents from different schools talking to each other.
Pupil Involvement
The cricket afternoons are usually for Years 3 and 4 pupils, both boys and girls.
Frequency
Annual event which occurs in either May or June each summer.
