Community work in 2023

In 2023, King’s continued to be involved with the local community and participated in various events with age groups across Medway, including those not associated with education.

wHoo Cares joins King's Christmas Concert

We were delighted to welcome Michelle Trumper and a small party of Pensioners to our Senior School Christmas Concert. The pupils from Kings between 12 and 18 were able to perform to Guests, Friends and Family a varied selection of classical and contemporary music across a range of both choral and instrumental pieces.

Particularly memorable was the full Orchestra's rendition of the Snowman at the end of the evening.

Music concert with wHoo Cares
At the end of year leavers concert we were delighted to invite members of the wHoo Cares CIC to our concert.

Aims: To allow some of our more senior citizens the chance to attend a concert in the nave of Rochester Cathedral and enjoy the camaraderie of the fellow audience members

Resources
The Concert was provided by a selection of School pupils from 13 to 18 plus members of the King's School Rochester music department.

Use of facilities by Army Reservists
Since 2018 the local Army reservists have used our Alps playing fields for training in their required skills and fitness. These sessions are for Adults aged over 18.

Other information about this activity is restricted.

Harvest collections taken to Open House Project
As part of our Harvest Festival celebration, children throughout the King's School were encouraged to make donations of food which were then supplied to the Open House Project at the Quaker Meeting House in Rochester, which aims to provide regular hot meals to those deserving cases in the local area of Medway.

Partnership with Rochester City Vintage & Artisan Market
The operation of the regular Saturday markets held in the High Street are supported by the School by us lending our car parking facilities to the Traders.

Aims: We aim to support local traders with the sales of local products to the Rochester community.

Partnership with the Foord Almshouses
HANDS is the King's School Rochester community service initiative which was started in the 1980s.

Currently, members of our lower sixth pupils visit the Foord Almshouses to help an elderly lady, by doing some work on her allotment, helping around her house with various chores, and generally keeping her company.

Aims: To support the elderly.

Pupil Involvement: Members of our lower sixth aged 16/17.
