Community Work

Young at heart cooking sessions
15 local OAPs come to Bede's to cook a variety of products. Sixth form students assist with this. It's a lovely way to join together to different age groups in a fun and skilled activity.

Aims:
Increase community links and bridging the gap between ages and lifestyles.

Young at Heart day group support
A local OAP group join us once a term to carry out various activities from visiting the zoo, to cooking to doing Art work

Aims:
The aim is to build community relations between Bede's students and the members of the Young at Heart group. The idea is to join together and facilitating a strong friendship

Impact:
Conversations with the members of young at heart- They absolutely love the interaction with the students

Our students love the responsibility in their feedback forms and reminds them of their grand parents

Matthew 25 charity support
Every week, students travel to Matthew 25 to help and support the work that the charity offer in helping homeless and vulnerable people. Two of our sixth form students have been chosen to sit on the board of governors in an attempt to encourage local school children to be involved with the charity

Aims:
The aim is to educate our students on what being homeless might be like and the care and support that is needed for them.

Football Academy
Bede's runs a local Football Academy on a weekly basis allowing local children to have access to our facilities and coaches.

Weekly. On-going.

Presentations for the LTA
The Head of Tennis has run presentations for the Lawn Tennis Association to schools and their sports staff, both locally and further afield, about best practice in running tennis tournaments in schools.

Knit and Natter in the Village Shop
A group of pupils spend the afternoon knitting and talking to a group of villagers who enjoy their company. At the same time they are knitting blankets for charity groups

- To engage with villagers
- Learn a new skill
- Provide opportunities for company for villagers who live on their own
- Provide knitted products for charities
