Community Links workshops

A selection of staff and year 9 students from St Gabriel's visited primary schools helping develop a range of ideas and skills across Years 3-6.

Aims

Group 1 - The children took part in physical activities as well as activities such as reading and beading.

Group 2 - Took part in a garden renovation project looking at Eco gardens and sustainability.

Group 3 -  Spent the time cleaning their toys and areas, as often they don't have time to do so. They were split into two groups, one cleaning all the balls in the ball pit wiping down equipment in that room and the other cleaning the toys. Everyone then joined to finish cleaning the ball pit. They then had a chance to enjoy the sunshine with ice lollies as the centre's thank you.

Background

The opportunities were developed as part of St Gabriel's PSHE programme. Working alongside members of the community to identify how our students can help and support a range of peers within West Berkshire to enhance their well-Being and mental health in a positive manner.

Resources

Students used facilities from St Gabriel's to offer fun and exciting activities. They created crafting tasks such as bead making and playing with the parachute.

There were a range of ages involved in this project from year 3-6 as well as equipment cleaned as part of one activity used by Swings and Smiles to a wider age range.

Impact

The students from St Gabriel's and the host schools both felt a positive impact in the activities. It allowed students to collaborate and understand a variety of pressures that peers may feel. It allowed students from the host schools to consider ways to manage emotions in a positive way offering the best possible outcomes to their school day.
