Community Links

Stover School carries out a number of activities to support and engage with the local community.

Stover School allowed the use of a parcel of land adjacent to the Templar Way for the display of a sculpture in memory of the Canadian foresters who were providing much needed timber for the war effort during WW1. This is now a feature of the Templar Way walk.

We have raised money to purchase a talking defibrillator which is stored within the school grounds, provided the choir as part of a Rotary Club fundraising event and host an annual Carol Service in our Jubilee Hall for Cancer Research UK.

Members of staff and Sixth Form pupils from Stover School helped launch Young Art Devon whilst gaining skills for their Personal Development Plan. Young Art Devon is an exciting new initiative open to all schools in Devon for children from Reception up to Year 9.  The annual event is a wonderful way to encourage creative talents, an exciting opportunity for aspiring young artists to have their work judged by well known and respected artists and to raise money for a fantastic cause, Cancer Research UK.

A partnership with the local club was formed which facilitated the formation of the Stover clay pigeon shooting club. This allows pupils from the school to shoot on the ground and in addition a parent and child taster morning have also been arranged at the weekends. This has resulted in an increased patronage of the Country Sports Shop and participation at Ashcombe, the local clay shooting ground.

Every year, staff and pupils at Stover School (including the head of the Art Department) volunteered their time and resources to offer an activity in the children's tent at the Bovey Tracey Contemporary Craft Festival. Visitors of the festival are welcomed into the tent to create their own piece of artwork which they can take home with them afterwards. We look forward to offering this project again for many years to come.

Stover School has strong links with Newton Abbot Rugby Football Club with aims of further building our community ties, whilst providing support for a local club that offers the wider community a fantastic opportunity to learn, master or continue with a sport into adulthood.

The local tennis club uses our school facilities as a base for their club and allows us to cater for the local community. Providing greater resources and new facilities.

A number of community sporting activities take place on the Stover School site for which we provide ground staffing, stewarding and parking free of charge. These include various regional and local cross-country events and a Stover community 5k charity run, which raises funding for local charities. The Teignbridge Trotters, Templar 10 cross country event is also held annually on the school grounds.

Stover School is a well-regarded school in the region and has numerous links with local sports clubs and other groups.
