Coaching Training for teachers
Providing Coaching training to teachers at Edgbarrow School.
Aims
To train teachers in coaching skills; to begin to grow and embed a coaching culture through the relationships within the school, from staff to staff and staff to students.
Background
This grew from 3 Edgbarrow teachers gaining fully funded places on the Wellington College Teaching School Partnership Leadership Diploma in 2017. During this course, they experienced the Wellington Foundational Coaching Course and immediately saw the benefit at Edgbarrow.
Resources
Wellington teaching staff time and expertise. Use of a room at both schools. 4 cohorts have completed the Foundational Course, one group of 8 has also done the Advanced Course, and one Edgbarrow teacher is training now to become a coach trainer, thereby beginning to build self-sufficient capacity.
Fully funded by Wellington.
Impact
3 staff internally promoted to Assistant Head; 3 more internally promoted to middle leadership positions; reports of improved wellbeing, work-life balance and fulfilment; increased autonomy for students.
Pupil Involvement
Pupils receive coaching from those teachers who have trained.
Frequency
Ongoing.
