Cloister Challenge 2022

On the night of Friday 18th March, 23 Sixth Form students and 3 staff spent the night sleeping in the cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral to raise money for a local charity, HaVinG.

The Charity aims to raise much-needed funds for Homeless and Vulnerable people in Gloucester and the local area.

This was, without doubt, one of the most thought-provoking events of the year so far. Sleeping on the floor of the Cloisters, through which we walk most days on our way to Chapel without really thinking much about it, was a disorientating experience, and gave us a slight insight into what life must be like for those forced to sleep on the streets. The cold floor made for an uncomfortable night, but most of us managed to get at least some sleep in between the noises and snoring! Most of our students also volunteered to help with the refreshments through the night – serving teas at 2am was an interesting part of the Challenge!

Between us, an impressive amount of money was raised which will all go to support the vulnerable people of Gloucester, fulfilling the Charity’s mission of ‘a hand up, not a hand out’.
