Classics Workshop

Two 90-minute workshops based on Greek mythology for St George's pupils and a group of Year 8 pupils from a local state secondary school.

Aims

The aim of the workshop was to explore and develop improvisation skills in Drama through the use of Greek Myths. Pupils were brought together from different schools to encourage the cooperation and collaboration of pupils from the state and independent sectors.

Background

The Head of Classics at St George's and P&O Lead worked with the local state school to provide an opportunity for the pupils that worked alongside the curriculum and made use of the resources and funding St George's had access to.

Resources

An external company ran the workshop and provided props. St George's funded the activity and provided the theatre space.

Impact

All pupils across both school gave very positive verbal feedback at the end of each session and the visiting teacher said she saw her pupils engaged and challenging themselves doing activities that would otherwise not have been available to them.

Pupil Involvement

Two groups of 30 Y8 pupils per session with 15 from each school.

Frequency

This has also brought about other collaborative projects between the two schools' Drama departments.
