Christmas Hampers
Every Christmas we support vulnerable single parent families in our community in partnership with local charity CHEER. Our pupils assemble hampers for allocated families that include gifts, food and decorations. We deliver to 73 families each year.
Aims
All pupils at Emanuel School are encouraged to be outward looking, to contribute to the community, whether local or global, to learn compassion and respect for others around them and to look outside their own needs. The Christmas hamper project is aligned with these aims.
Background
A parent of an Old Emanuel is involved with the charity and through her connection with the school initiated the project.
We have been delivering hampers for 5+ years.
Resources
The project is collaborative - form tutors communicate and organise their form's contributions; our maintenance team delivers the hampers to designated points; our Head of Partnerships and Outreach liaises with CHEER, allocates families and supports delivery; parents and pupils procure presents, food and decorations.
Teaching staff are involved in coordination. Hampers are collected at school and stored briefly.
Pupil Involvement
Pupils are heavily involved from Year 6 through Year 11.
Frequency
The activity is annual.
We will continue to provide support to our local single parent families for the foreseeable future.
