Careers and Higher Education conference (Sacred Heart Catholic School, London)

Annual careers and higher education conference.

Aims

To provide an opportunity for existing St Paul's Girls' School pupils in the Lower Sixth /AS year and their parents as well as neighbouring schools to gather information regarding Higher Education and the process of applying to top universities in the UK and in the US (if relevant). University admissions staff from a range of institutions are invited to lead seminars on university admission in general and in some specific popular subject areas. There are also sessions on writing a personal statement which forms part of a university application. US admissions are discussed with our US school counsellor and out US graduate interns and a panel of university students from institutions such as; Harvard, Yale, Princeton and U Penn lead a Q and A session.

Background

The event takes place at the school.

Approximately 160 students are involved, 110 from SPGS and approximately 50 from neighbouring schools. Heads of Department and senior tutors as well as our senior management team are in attendance. 5/6 neighbouring schools send a cohort of 10 – 15 students and may also send an accompanying member of staff. It is a morning conference 9.00 – 12.30 Schools participating are a mixture of independent and state, the latter with attendance from Lady Margaret's and Hammersmith Academy.

Universities which will be represented this year include: Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, KCL, Warwick and York. Subject specific sessions include: art, English, history, medicine, sciences, social sciences and modern languages.
