Careers and further education support for local schools

Bryanston's career department holds many events throughout the year in which to give advice about careers or moving on to higher education. Local state schools 6th formers are always invited to these events. Specifically;

The second ‘Studying in Canada’ event attended by ‘the big 3’: McGill, UBC, Toronto, together with the universities of Waterloo, Lakehead, Brock, Queen’s, Windsor, Bishop’s, MUN, Carleton, Ryerson, Guelph and Mount Allison. All local schools invited. Attended by: parents and students from Gillingham, Gryphon, QE Wimborne, Poole Grammar, Thomas Hardye and Twynham. All teachers were invited to a networking supper, which was attended by Poole Grammar and The Gryphon School.

Higher Education/Careers Forum Day: 40+ workshops on offer exploring school leaver, apprenticeship, career and university options. 100+ visiting students and 8 visiting staff from six local schools attended Beaminster, Blandford, Budford, Gillingham, QE Wimborne and Sarum Academy.

20+ local schools are invited on an annual basis to attend Oxbridge and Medical application sessions for visiting teachers and students. Typically attended by Heads of Sixth Form or careers staff from ten local schools, including: Blandford, Corfe Hills, Ferndown Upper, Gillingham, Gryphon, Lytchett Minster, Purbeck, Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton, Thomas Hardye. Local teachers are also invited to stay for A3 Parents’ HE/Next Steps Day.

We have an ongoing relationship with Blandford School. Bryanston teaching staff and professional contacts provide interview practice for Oxbridge and Healthcare professions on an adhoc basis. Staff in the Biology Department also help familiarise students with the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) process, increasingly used for Medic, Vet and Dentistry applications. Other Heads of Department also provide assistance with preparation for interviews and the admissions process as necessary.
