Cabinet of Curiosities English Workshop

The Hampton School Primary Schools Cabinet of Curiosities Workshop is an annual event aimed at Year 5 pupils.

Aims

The Hampton English Department run the Cabinet of Curiosities Workshop, an interactive Creative Writing Workshop. Local primary schools are invited to attend and bring four pupils to the event.

The workshop is designed to promote a love of English; to develop and extend creative writing skills, to stretch and challenge enthusiastic and able pupils, working at or on the cusp of 'Greater Depth'. Pupils work in an interactive environment with pupils from other schools, and with Hampton staff and Sixth Form pupils. 

Resources

The Hampton School English Department host and run the event for local primary schools, supported by the Hampton School Admissions Department who coordinate administrative details and communicate with the local schools. The event is held in the Main Hall or the Hammond Theatre and all resources are funded by the School.

Pupil Involvement

Pupils are in Year 5 at their local primary school and both boys and girls are invited to the event. At the Cabinet of Curiosities workshop held in October 2018, 12 local primary schools participed involving 48 pupils.

Schools involved in 2018 were as follows: Buckingham Primary School, Chase Bridge Primary School, Crane Park Primary School, Edward Pauling Primary School, Grove Road Primary School, Hampton Hill Junior School, Hampton Junior School, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School, Oriel Academy West London, Orleans Primary School, St Mary's Hampton Church of England School and The Queen’s Church of England School.

Frequency

This is an ongoing annual event, which takes place in October. We hope that the event will continue to grow each year.
