Bedales Music Day
Bedales held a Music Day, attended by approximately 50 pupils from visiting schools.
Aims
To inspire young musicians, singers and instrumentalists.
To encourage attendees to explore their own musical paths.
An opportunity to play and sing with older students, Bedales Music scholars and the Bedales orchestra and choir.
To attend a preview of the Bedales Rock Show.
Background
Bedales holds a series of events focussing on different aspects of its curriculum, and which enables visiting schools to experience Bedales’ inspirational teaching and resources. Themes include: Art, English, Global Awareness, Philosophy, Outdoor Work and Design.
Resources
5 x Bedales staff; Lunch and snacks provided.
Bedales Director of Music, composed an orchestral piece especially for the day, which was suitable for all the musicians working at different levels.
Impact
Five visiting schools attended including two state - Steep Primary and Bohunt School - and three independent - Thomas’s Battersea, Dorset House Prep and West Hill Park School. Each group was accompanied by their Music teachers.
Pupils rehearsed throughout the day and parents were invited to a finale concert and the Rock Show preview.
Pupil Involvement
Visiting pupils included:
10 x Year 5/6 pupils from Steep Primary School
8 x Year 7/8 pupils from Bohunt School
In addition there were 31 pupils from the three visiting independent schools, and 100 Bedales students participated.
Frequency
These events are held termly with a differing theme for each day – the Music themed event is annual.
