Bath Student Parliament

This project is designed to give students a forum to have their voices heard on global and local issues.  In addition, students have a chance to build friendships across our wider community and develop an understanding of how to shape change in the world around them.

Launched in 2020, meetings have been held by students who have developed subcommittees working on key areas of interest to students.  These include:

Environmental issues
Mental health and wellbeing
Equality and diversity
Charities
Bath Student Parliament

Aims

The aim is to bring students together and share ideas and develop a vision for action on matters of priority for them.

This project is about building lasting connections and rebuilding a sense of confidence that ensures young people make themselves heard and have the agency to shape change.

Background

The opportunity was identified through a meeting of the Bath Heads and prioritised as something that will be impactful in terms of empowering students to reach out, communicate and problem solve together as they emerge from the pandemic.

Resources

Meetings are rotated around school venues. Teaching staff from each school support the pupils in planning and logistics but it is pupil led. The parliament is due to meet in full at least once every term, with sub-committees established and active between formal meetings.

Impact

Students benefited from connections and collaboration with counterparts from other schools. More will follow as the BSP becomes more established.

Pupil Involvement

Whilst open to students from all year groups in Senior Schools, it is led by Sixth Formers.

Frequency

This is an ongoing partnership between the Bath Schools.
