Astronomy Taster Session

2 Dean Close Pupils attended an Astronomy Taster session and a second follow up event organised by the Cheltenham Education Partnership for academic enrichment.

Aims

This was an academic enrichment activity to stimulate Year 9 secondary pupils with a subject not available at their school. This required expert knowledge from the providing teachers and the use of a blow-up observatory for the follow-up session.

Background

This was a first year CEP event organised by Jeremy Niblett from Balcarras School, which David Evans then passed on to the Dean Close Head of Physics who recommended the pupils.

Resources

This required staff willingness to take the pupils, which involved the Head of Physics and the Dean Close Champion to give 3 hours of their time on 2 afternoons.

Impact

The anticipated outcome was to stimulate the interest of the pupils taking part, which it did, as well as to support CEP.

Pupil Involvement

This involved 2 Year 9 girls.

Frequency

These taster sessions happened twice and may be repeated next year.
