Art with Wimbledon Library
Pupils from King's devise an art activity every week to keep a group of local residents interested and entertained. A little artistic skill is helpful, but the task is really to get a programme of good activities arranged and running, and then enjoy the conversation (and maybe chocolate biscuits!) as the customers paint and draw.
Aims
The aims are two-fold - it teaches the elderly in the community art skills and helps them to engage with others regularly and it also helps our pupils to hone their artistic ability and to learn teaching skills.
Resources
Pupils liaise with the library staff to obtain materials and resources and then run the class.
Impact
Most students stated the project helped develop their compassion and levels of responsiblity.
Pupil Involvement
Year 11 and above.
Frequency
Ongoing, every Friday in term time.
