Art Club

King Edward’s Art department (alongside students from Fourth Year) leads a four-week programme of Art sessions with a group of Gifted and Talented students from a local primary school. The sessions are designed to be linked in with the primary school curriculum, based around a term’s main topic, and to offer students an opportunity to experiment with different styles of art.

Aims

The pupils from Wordsworth directly benefit from the provision offered by King Edward’s as they are able to develop new art techniques and benefit from different resources and facilities. The aim of this project is to inculcate a love of art and a passion for thinking outside the box, alongside instilling a desire to attain highly in Art.

Background

This workshop has run for many years. However, this is the first year that Wordsworth has taken part.

Resources

The key resource for this project is the Art teacher that runs the group and the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm she brings. Art equipment is also provided, which is the only cost element. The club runs for an hour a week for a four week block.

Impact

The teachers at Wordsworth commented on the value of, and opportunity provided by, the Club. We are hoping to develop our links with Wordsworth further, both in Art and other areas.

Pupil Involvement

Around 15 students from KS2 are involved in the project, both boys and girls.

Frequency

This is a workshop that we hope to resume with Wordsworth in the Autumn Term.
